Best Barbacoa in ABQ “Barbacoa El Primo”

It’s not boastful for El Primo to claim that his barbacoa is “Simplemente la Mejor” which means “Simply the Best”. He’s only stating the obvious. He’s just saying what everybody is thinking. If you’ve never had barbacoa before, you probably don’t understand how large of a claim this is. Barbacoa is a slow-cooked tender beef with a lot of flavor and a lot of fat. Essentially any barbacoa that you get at a restaurant is pre-made frozen or refrigerated but Barbacoa is like pizza; Even if it’s bad, it’s still pretty good. El primo makes their barbacoa in-house using a special recipe and it is especially tender and flavorful. Think of the best pizza you’ve ever had in your life and that is what El Primo’s barbacoa is compared to any other barbacoa. Continue reading “Best Barbacoa in ABQ “Barbacoa El Primo””

The Talking Hours Album Release Show at Sister

One of the many reasons I have a love/hate relationship with Downtown ABQ is that we are a small enough town that you can run into people you know every weekend. It can be good or it can be bad. I was walking by Sister bar on Central, I wasn’t going to go in because I was headed to Burt’s Tiki Lounge to meet up with friends but I saw the event schedule by Sister’s front door it said, “THE TALKING HOURS 11:11-12:12”. I was just in time to catch the entire show. My friends had to wait.

Breve Crepes & Coffee: 10/10 review

It’s a warmer-than-should-be, late-November afternoon and I’m finishing up a nice walk through my neighborhood. I walk by the Simms building and I’m reminded of the one time I went to Breve and how long it has been since then; more than a couple of years. It’s the perfect time because I’m hungry, thirsty, and I haven’t had a cheat-day on my diet in a while. Continue reading “Breve Crepes & Coffee: 10/10 review”

Brickyard Pizza Review

Approximately 10:30 pm it is a quiet night in Nob Hill. I park on Harvard street because it has the nice lights that were recently put in. As I get out of my car and start heading toward Brickyard Pizza, it is dead silent. That is until I open the door and walk into the establishment! There are multiple large group tables, the bar is completely packed, and the servers are running around with their hands full. It is TUESDAY! Continue reading “Brickyard Pizza Review”

There is a hot debate among hungry burqueños over which local chain has the best breakfast burrito in town. Yes, there are great deal of places that make breakfast burritos in Albuquerque. In fact, it is not an exaggeration to say that basically every restaurant in town serves a breakfast burrito of some kind. However, Blake’s, Golden Pride, and Twisters are the most commercially successful and well-known burrito places in town so you can say I’m on a quest to find la creme du la creme of burritos.
